In the vibrant music scene of Brighton, a four-member band known as The New Eves is making an unforgettable mark. Their innovative sound and striking debut album, titled "The New Eve Is Rising," have captured significant attention this year.
Recognized as Rough Trade’s album of the month for August, this record artfully blends various musical styles, including punk, folk, krautrock, and gothic elements, resulting in a listening experience that is entirely original. Band member Nina Winder-Lind reflects on their artistic journey, stating, "This project has been about us redefining ourselves, and we hope anyone who listens can find inspiration in that. We’re exploring how far we can stretch our creativity as a group while crafting our own mythology."
The unique ensemble consists of guitarist and violinist Violet Farrer, cellist and guitarist Nina Winder-Lind, bassist Kate Mager, and drummer and flautist Ella Oona Russell, all of whom contribute to the vocal performances. While their visual style may draw parallels with renowned artists like Florence and the Machine and The Last Dinner Party, it is their distinctive sound that truly sets them apart.
The eerie cover art of their debut album, featuring the band ascending a hill while hoisting a flag emblazoned with the album's name—evoking imagery reminiscent of "The Wicker Man"—perfectly encapsulates the album's deep and moody atmosphere, inviting listeners into their world.
In live performances, The New Eves have already made a notable impact, having played two sold-out shows at Hoxton Hall in London in 2025, where they received acclaim for their immersive and theatrical approach to music. Following the release of their album, they also debuted a new single featuring collaborations with Red Brick and Whale Station, showcasing a more accessible side of their musical identity.
Other promising acts are also garnering attention this year. For instance, the New York-based duo Fcukers is making waves with their electrifying electroclash sound. They supported Tame Impala on tour, enthralled audiences at Glastonbury’s Woodsies stage, and completely sold out three nights at London’s Colour Factory.
Additionally, Olivia Dean, a singer-songwriter from London, is on a rapid rise after achieving both a UK number one album and single in 2025. Her upcoming Art of Loving Tour will see her performing at prestigious venues such as the O2 Arena and New York's Madison Square Garden. Notably, she collaborated with Sam Fender for a live duet on his track "Rein Me In" and released the single "It Isn’t Perfect But It Might Be" for the film "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy" in 2025.
