Remembering Miles L. Carpenter (1944-2026): A Life of Service, Family, and Legacy (2026)

It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news of our father’s passing—Miles Ludlow Carpenter, a man whose legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him. On January 7, 2026, we said goodbye to a devoted family man, a community pillar, and a true gentleman. But here’s where it gets personal: Miles’ life was a testament to love, service, and the quiet strength that comes from a life well-lived. Born in Oakville, NB, and raised in Marysville, he was the son of Perley and Rheta (Wilkinson) Carpenter, and the beloved husband of the late Fernande (Robichaud) Carpenter.

After graduating from FHS, Miles pursued his education at the University of South Florida in Tampa, where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). He then returned to Fredericton to begin a distinguished career with the provincial government. And this is the part most people miss: It was in 1972 that he met the love of his life, Fernande, and just months after their first date, they married. Together, they shared 48 extraordinary years, marked by unwavering commitment, until Fernande’s passing five years ago. Their life was a beautiful blend of volunteering, church involvement, and community service, leaving an indelible mark on everyone they touched.

Miles was a man of many passions and commitments. Over the years, he dedicated himself to Scouting, the Knights of Columbus, and numerous committees and organizations. After retiring from government, he founded a consulting company, which allowed him more time to focus on his love for genealogy and the Knights of Columbus. Here’s where it gets controversial: While some might see genealogy as a quiet hobby, Miles turned it into a mission, spending countless hours researching the Carpenter family tree, authoring two books, and organizing family reunions that brought distant relatives together. His other interests included gardening, fishing, hunting, reading, woodworking, and, above all, cherishing time with his family, especially his grandsons.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his children, Michelle (Brent) Dore and Jamie (Jennifer) Carpenter; grandsons Jake Dore (Alyssa) and Riley Dore (Robyn); great-granddaughters Oaklynn, Vallie, and Daphne; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Miles was predeceased by his parents, his wife Fernande, his brothers Johnny, Murray, and Terry, and his in-laws Onesime and Gertrude Robichaud, along with several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 1-4 PM at Bishop’s Funeral Home, located at 540 Woodstock Rd. A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, January 12, at 11 AM, at Holy Family Parish Church, 1500 Hanwell Road, officiated by Father Bill Brennan. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Dixon in York Care for their compassionate care over the past three years. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a charity of the donor’s choice.

A thought-provoking question for you: In a world that often values ambition over quiet dedication, how do we honor the lives of those like Miles, whose impact is felt not in headlines, but in the hearts of those they loved and served? Share your thoughts in the comments—we’d love to hear your perspective.
