Canada's Nathan MacKinnon is not at the Olympics to enjoy himself. While most athletes strive for a balance between peak performance and appreciating the experience, MacKinnon's skewed work-life balance is perfectly summarized by his reaction to his first experience in an Olympic athletes' village. He wants to win gold and is not interested in mingling or enjoying the non-competitive aspects of the Olympics. However, his intense competitiveness and desire to win are qualities that every coach would want in a top player. Canada head coach Jon Cooper hopes that MacKinnon will at least allow himself some fun during the Olympics, but MacKinnon fully intends to listen to his coach and have fun in his own way. He will enjoy playing hockey and going on vacations every summer.
